Deputies responded to the intersection of FM1021(El Indio Highway) and Tierra Soberana Blvd. early Sunday morning, after receiving calls of a motor vehicle accident with a fixed object. At approximately 2:00 AM, officers made their way to the scene and observed a 2002 Dodge van located in the brush area before making contact with the driver, Edwin Javier De La Cruz. Mr. De La Cruz told deputies he was traveling on FM 1021 when he fell asleep behind the wheel, causing him to careen off the road and striking a fence and electricity pole. Mr. De La Cruz refused medical attention at the time of the report. This case remains under investigation.
