Maverick County Sheriff's Office(PRESS RELEASE)-January 20, 2015

Maverick County Shjeriff's deputies, under the direction of Tom Schmerber, responded to calls of a vehicle in pursuit coming into the Eagle Pass area late Friday afternoon. At approximately 5:30 PM deputies began their pursuit of a 2003 grey Dodge Ram Pickup heading South on US Highway 277 that failed to yield to Border Patrol agents. The pickup also failed to yield to county units and the pursuit continued as deputies followed closely through the Seco Mines area and back onto US Highway 277, heading south. The driver of the pickup eventually lost control while attempting to make a turn at a high rate of speed and collided with a county unit and a wooden fence at a private residence. A quick search of the vehicle found two military-style duffel bags containing approximately 97.6 lbs. of marijuana. The subject, identified as forty-seven year old Jose Flores was taken into custody and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center. This case is currently under investigation.
