Vehicle Catches fire on Highway 57

Maverick County Sheriff's Office (PRESS RELEASE)- Sheriff's deputies arrived to a vehicle on fire after receiving an emergency 911 call on Sunday February 23, 2014. The female driver of the vehicle, a 2000 red and beige GMC Jimmy, stated that she was en route to Dallas, Texas when she noticed problems with the vehicle near the US Border Patrol checkpoint and opted to return to Eagle Pass. The driver pulled over and quickly exited at the intersection of US Highway 57 and Loop 480 after having seen smoke and fire from the vehicle's chassis. Eagle Pass Fire Department was summoned to the scene and deputies performed an inspection and found the muffler broken in half, the most probable cause for the fire. No other damages were noticed on the GMC and the vehicle was towed by family members.
