Possession of a Controlled Substance-Deputies responded to the international port of entry this evening after two vehicles attempting to enter the United States were sent to secondary inspection. Two female subjects were detained after a search of their vehicles, a 2011 Lincoln SUV and a 2015 Nissan SUV, led to the discovery on 5,140 grams of heroin hidden inside a cardboard box of each of the vehicles. A field test kit revealed confirmed the substance as heroin and the two subjects, twenty-seven year old Nancy Fuentes Casares and fifty-seven year old Sonia Valdez Lopez, were placed under arrest and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing. Both vehicles were impounded and the narcotics were placed in the department evidence locker. A formal report was filed.
