Failure to Identify/Wanted Person/Possession of a Controlled Substance-A traffic stop on a 2008 Jeep Liberty led to the arrest of thirty-eight year old subject this afternoon after a check revealed an active warrant out of Travis County on sexual assault charges. Contact was made with the driver, Martin Talamantes,  who failed to provide a valid driver's license or proof of insurance and went on to give out fictitious information. Upon further contact a deputy observed a plastic gun holster in the center console, prompting a request a search of the vehicle. Mr. Talamantes complied to the search, which led to the discovery of a loaded Ruger P89 pistol underneath the front driver seat and approximately .46g of methamphetamine found in between the front driver seat and center console. Talamantes was taken into custody and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing. His vehicle was impounded by a local wrecker service. Both the narcotics and firearm were tagged and placed in the evidence locker for safekeeping.
