Maverick County Daily Reports-February 29, 2020

Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle/Possession of a Controlled Substance-Deputies responded to Rodriguez Street this morning after receiving reports of a suspicious gold van in the area. A vehicle matching the description was later seen in the area, leading to a brief pursuit after the driver of the van failed to yield to attempts to make a traffic stop. The driver, later identified as twenty-one year old Darian G. Garza, attempted to flee the scene on foot before barricading himself inside his residence. Deputies were then able to successfully gain entry into the residence and place Garza in hand restraints. Mr. Garza later admitted he had tossed a clear plastic baggie containing cocaine while fleeing the scene. The narcotics were recovered and Mr. Garza was placed under arrest and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.

Motor Vehicle Accident-The driver of a 2019 Suzuki Yamaha motorcycle reported he had been travelling westbound on  FM 1021 when a 2013 Hyundai turned without caution onto FM 2030 from FM 1021, causing the motorcyclist to strike the vehicle on its rear passenger side. EMS crews arrived at the scene to transport the driver of the motorcycle to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for further  medical treatment.

Possession of a Controlled Substance/Possession of Marijuana under 2 oz.-Agents at the international port of entry 2 this afternoon reported they had detained a male subject after a K-9 agent had altered to the presence of contraband. A secondary inspection on a 2008 Ford Edge from Mexico yielded the discovery of approximately five packages of methamphetamine and the driver was found in possession of personal use of marijuana. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.
