Maverick County Daily Reports-November 17, 2018

Driving While Intoxicated-A unit on patrol this morning observed a Ford pickup truck stopped at the intersection of Sevilla and Zaragoza Street. Upon attempting to make contact with the driver, a sheriff's deputy found the subject asleep behind the wheel of the vehicle with the vehicle turned on. Contact was made with twenty-year old Justin Alexis Garcia, who emitted a strong alcohol odor from his person and was in a disoriented state. Mr. Garcia would refuse to take a field sobriety exam. He was taken into custody and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.

Assault/Family Violence-A unit was dispatched to the 2900 block of Of Sanchez Street this morning, whereupon arrival made contact with a female complainant who reported she had been assaulted by her common-law husband. The complainant, who presented recent minor injuries, reported her common-law husband had left the scene in a black Chevrolet Malibu prior to a deputies arrival. She would refuse further medical attention at the time of the report and would be transported to the Maverick County Sheriff's Office for a proper statement.

Theft/Burglary of Vehicle-A complainant on the 300 block of Zaragoza reported unknown subject(s) had entered her 2008 Ford pickup and took items without consent. The subject(s) also removed an LED lightbar from her vehicle. A formal report was filed.

Wanted Person-Rafael Humberto Mendoza was arrested at the international port of entry #1 this evening after a check revealed an active warrant. The warrant out of El Paso County was confirmed and Mr. Mendoza was taken into custody and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.

Possession of a Controlled Substance/Resisting Arrest-A deputy patrolling Candelario Montalvo conducted a traffic stop on a 1997 GMC Sierra for a minor infraction this evening. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Juan Francisco Tobias, who was asked to step out of the vehicle. Mr. Tobias was asked to step out of his vehicle in order to conduct a pat-down search, however, became combative and begin to reach into his pockets. Mr. Tobias then attempted to resist deputies when being detained. A search revealed a pocket knife and a clear plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance inside Tobia's right front pocket. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.
