Maverick County Daily Reports-August 31, 2018

Driving Under the Influence-Deputies on patrol in the Loma Bonita sector of Maverick County this morning made contact with the driver of a 2019 Kia Sorrento seen driving in the oncoming lane. The driver, identified as Mario Alberto Marquez, displayed signs of intoxication and admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier in the evening. He was taken into custody and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.

Deceased Person-A unit responded to the 300 block of Escuela Street this morning, where contact was made with a nurse who reported a known male subject under hospice care had been found unresponsive by his wife. Justice of the Peace Madera arrived at the location to declare the male subject deceased at approximately 9:16 AM.

Motor Vehicle Accident-County units were dispatched to US Highway 277 East this morning in regards to a motor vehicle accident involving two pickup trucks. Contact was made with the driver of a silver Dodge pickup, who reported he had been traveling eastbound on Highway 277 when the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado struck the right side of his vehicle. EMS crews were on the scene to transport the driver of the Dodge for further medical evaluation while the driver of the Chevrolet was cleared. The Texas Department of Public Safety is handling investigations.

Possession of a Controlled Substance/Unlawful Possession of a Firearm-A deputy on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a 2004 Buick Rainer for a minor traffic violation by Veteran's Blvd. late this afternoon. Contact was made with the driver, twenty-one year old Christian Ray Barrett, who upon conducting a pat-down search was found to be in possession of a rolled up paper containing several white rocks with the same characteristics as methamphetamine. He was placed under arrest on possession charges.
A search was also conducted on the passenger, identified as Melanie Aguilar, who was found with several baggies containing white rocks with methamphetamine characteristics as well as a 9mm handgun. Ms. Aguilar was taken into custody and the two subjects were transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.

Driving with License Invalid-Michael Romo was placed under arrest after a traffic stop revealed he had been operating a vehicle with an invalid license. He was transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.
