Maverick County Sheriff's Units responded to the Tierra Del Sol subdivision this evening after receiving reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, it was learned that a male subject at the scene was being transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center with an apparent single gunshot wound. Preliminary investigations at the scene revealed a home invasion gone wrong, as the wounded subject arrived at the residence wearing a ski-mask and carried a .22 caliber rifle. An apparent scuffle occurred with the homeowner, who was able to take possession of the weapon and shot the suspect. The suspect was later pronounced deceased and a formal autopsy was requested. The homeowner has not been charged pending an investigation and the case has been referred to the District Attorney's Office.
