Maverick County Daily Reports-July 16, 2015

Reckless Driving-Deputies patrol FM 1021 observed a red Dodge Charger traveling northbound recklessly passing a vehicle at a high rate of speed.  A traffic stop was conducted after deputies clocked the vehicle traveling thirty miles per hour over the posted limit.  The driver, identified as nineteen year old Humberto Ornelas, was arrested on reckless driving charges.

Motor Vehicle Accident-Deputies responded to Highway 277 East near the county line this morning in reference to a single motor vehicle accident. At approximately 7:15 AM units made their way to the scene to find the driver of a gray Dodge dually pickup truck had lost control of the vehicle, causing it to go off of the highway. The driver of the vehicle was treated for injuries and the Texas Department of Public Safety was on hand to take over the scene and the investigation.

Information Report-Units made their way to V&L Trucking in the Chula Vista sector in Maverick County after a 2004 Freightliner trailer was engulfed in flames. The driver stated he was hooking up a trailer when he began to smell something and opened the tractor only to find it fully engulfed. Eagle Pass Fire Department was summoned to the scene to safely extinguish the fire. This case is under investigation.

Family Violence-A deputy was dispatched to Quarry Street after a female stated that she had been assaulted by a known male subject.

Family Violence- Deputies made contact with a complainant in the Sheriff's Office lobby who stated she was assaulted by a known male subject.

Burglary of Habitation-A female complainant visited the Sheriff's Office to report unknown subject(s) had gained entry into her residence and took her passport, assorted jewelry, and a citizenship certificate without her consent.

Wanted Person-A subject was detained at the International Port of Entry #1 when a TCIC/NCIC check came back with an open warrant. The warrant out of Zavala County was confirmed and the individual was arrested and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.

Possession of Marijuana < 2 oz.-A deputy was dispatched to the Border Patrol South station where a male subject was detained for possession of marijuana.

Motor Vehicle Accident-A deputy was dispatched to the 3100 block of Roman Circle where a male subject told deputies he had struck a hog on FM 2644. His Vehicle was still drivable.

Information Report-Deputies responded to US Highway 277 North near Quemado when a 2009 Freightliner tractor trailer caught on fire. The driver, identified as Salvador Garcia of Del Rio, Texas, told deputies he was traveling northbound on 277 when he bagan to smell something burning. He pulled the trailer over to check under the hood and found the electrical wiring on fire. The entire trailer was engulfed in flames.
