Units patrolling El Indio Highway conducted a routine traffic stop that ended in the arrest of an inebreated driver early Friday morning. At approximately 2:15 AM, officers observed a black Ford Focus driving at a high rate of speed as it turned on to FM 1021 from Tierra Soberana Boulevard. Deputies followed the Focus and viewed it crash into two guardrails on the right shoulder of FM 1021 when they activated their emergency patrol lights and conducted a traffic stop.
Deputies made contact with Francisco Flores, Jr., the driver of the Focus, who began to speak with a slurred speech and had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath. Mr. Flores then consented to a field sobriety test, where he was later arrested on DWI charges. He was transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.
