County units were dispatched to US Highway 277 North early Sunday morning, in reference to a motor vehicle accident. Deputies arrived to the scene, which was approximately one mile north of Elm Creek to find a 2013 Ford Escape with a female occupant on the highway shoulder. The female told officials she was traveling northbound towards Del Rio, Texas when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle that fled the scene.
Deputies were able to detain the driver who fled the scene, nineteen year old Mathew Aaron Olivares, by Casino Grocery #4. Mr. Olivares, who was driving a green Chevrolet Cobalt, was arrested on Public Intoxication charges and for causing an accident involving personal injury. Mr. Olivares was transported to the Tom Bowles detention center for processing. The Female driver of the Escape was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for further medical attention.
