Four Arrested for Attempting to Smuggle Ammunition and Weapons into Mexico



EAGLE PASS, TEXAS-Four individuals were arrested Tuesday for attempting to smuggle a large amount of ammunition for assorted calibers and several firearms into Mexico.

This investigation is being conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations with the assistance of the Maverick County Sheriff's Department.


Arrested were Eduardo Hinojosa,47, and Jose Carlos Mendoza,42, both from Eagle Pass, Texas. Also arrested were Gily Ajin-Cordova,24, and Elizabeth Cervantes-Mateos,23, from Mexico. All four appeared before a federal judge in Del Rio, Texas where they were formally charged with federal export violations.

The arrests of these four indviduals resulted from an ongoing investigation into a conspiracy where the individuals attempted to export a large amount of ammunition and several firearms. 

Assistant U.S. Attorneys from the Del Rio office are prosecuting this case.
