Deputies responded to an accident involving a pedestrian in Quemado, Texas Friday afternoon. At approximately 4:39 PM, units were dispatched to the Highway 277 North, where they were able to make contact with Gilerenia Zendejas, the driver involved in the accident. Ms. Zendejas told deputies she was reversing her 2004 Dodge Ram pickup when she struck an elderly man walking next to the highway. The impact led the man, later identified as seventy-nine year old Joe Lopez, to fall down and strike his head, causing a laceration to his left eye brow. Mr. Lopez was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for further treatment. Ms. Zendejas, who further advised deputies thast she never saw the gentleman in her view, was cited for operating a vehicle without a license.
