Maverick County Sheriff's Office-PRESS RELEASE-January 29, 2015


County units were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 277 North and FM 1589(Hopedale Loop) Early yesterday moment after receiving calls of a motor vehicle accident. At approximately 6:35 AM, deputies arrived to the area to find a 2014 grey GMC Acadia surrounded by several border patrol agents. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the Acadia was traveling southbound on Barrera Street in the Seco Mines sector of the county when it nearly struck a border patrol unit. The Border Patrol unit activated its emergency lights and gave pursuit but the Acadia refused to stop and a chase ensued. The Acadia eventually collided into a ditched located on Hopedale Loop and the occupants were detained by Border Patrol Agents until County deputies arrived at the scene. EMS officials arrived at the location but both the driver and the passenger refused medical attention. The driver was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing. The passenger was issued a citation for public intoxication and was later released.
