Maverick County Sheriff's Office(PRESS RELEASE)-November 3, 2014
County units on patrol witnessed a motor vehicle accident on Highway 57, 1 mile prior to the United States Border Patrol checkpoint, Saturday November 1st, at approximately 8:55AM. Deputies made their way to the scene of the accident and made contact with the occupants of a 2014 Mazda 6 vehicle, bearing Mexican license plates. The driver stated he had observed an emergency vehicle with its emergency lights on and began to reduce his speed. A 1997 Freightliner tractor trailer traveling behind the Mazda was following too closely and struck the vehicle when it was unable to stop on time. The occupants of both vehicles refused medical attention at the time of the accident. The Texas Department of Public Safety was at the scene of the accident and has since taken over the investigation.
