Maverick County Sheriff's Office(PRESS RELEASE)-October 20, 2014

Deputies patrolling El Indio Highway Friday evening observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the center lane, prompting deputies to give chase in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. Units followed a black 1996 Buick Regal who failed to  yield to requests and ultimately lost control and struck a light pole as it attempted to turn onto Memo Robinson Road. The driver of the Regal fled the scene of the accident on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies a  few feet away from the scene. Further investigation of the vehicle led to the discovery of several duffel bags, containing approximately 218 pounds of marijuana.  The male subject was taken into custody and the case remains under investigation.

AEP was called to the location to assist in repairing the damage, which caused a blackout in the area for several hours.
