Fatal Accident Involving Pedestrian on Highway 277 North

Maverick County Sheriff's Office(PRESS RELEASE)-On Thursday March 27, 2014 at approximately 8:43 PM, sheriff's deputies were dispatched to highway 277 N by mile marker 596 in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Deputies arrived at the location to find a young male subject laying a few yards from the highway. A female subject, the driver of a 2011 Cadillac SUV, stated that while she was driving southbound on Highway 277, she noticed a truck moving to the right shoulder. She passed the truck and further stated that out of nowhere she saw a male standing on the side of the highway was unable to avoid impact with the male subject. Emergency medical services arrived on the scene to treat the male and check for vital signs but were unsuccessful. Justice of the Peace Dora Madera pronounced the male deceased at 9:45 PM. The Texas Department of Public Safety was also at the accident scene and has since taken over the investigation.
