PRESS RELEASE: Chase Leads to Vehicle crashing into McCoy's Building Supply


Maverick County Sheriff's Office (PRESS RELEASE)-The Maverick County Sheriff's Office received a call in the early morning hours of Tuesday February 02, 2014 from the Uvalde sector of the US Border Patrol requesting assistance on a vehicle refusing to stop. Border patrol agents advised Maverick County dispatch that they had been following a 2014 blue Dodge Journey that was traveling on highway 57 North heading southbound  from the County line. Sheriff's deputies made contact with the suspected vehicle near the Border Patrol checkpoint where it was witnessed traveling at excessive speeds. Deputies and  the City of Eagle Pass police officers managed to follow the vehicle on highway 57 towards Highway 277 East, where the vehicle failed to control its speed and drove straight across the highway. The Dodge Journey struck the chain link fence of McCoy's Building Supply and damaged an unknown amount of dog-eared picket fences on pallets. The Driver, identified as Ernest Hernandez, Jr., was treated on the scene by arriving ambulance services but refused further medical treatment or transport. Hernandez was taken into custody and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for process.
